How Can I Reduce Wrinkles on My Face Using Botox?

Millions of people get Botox every year. One of the most common benefits of botox is a decrease in wrinkles. Consumers love the way that Botox makes their skin look. Once it’s relaxed, you’ll enjoy a more youthful appearance.

If you’re interested in getting Botox to reduce wrinkles, keep reading. We’ll explain how Botox works in this guide to Botox for wrinkle reduction.

What to Know About Botox

How Does Botox Work?

Botox doesn’t remove wrinkles. There’s not a magical formula in Botox that takes those wrinkles away from your face. Rather, Botox targets your facial muscles. The botulinum toxin in Botox paralyzes your facial muscles which disables them.

In turn, it can reduce wrinkles and prevent the creation of new wrinkles. Paralysis of your facial muscles may sound scary, but it’s a very controlled process. There is only enough of the toxin to paralyze your muscles. There shouldn’t be any adverse effects unless you’re allergic to Botox.

And, the ‘paralysis’ is not permanent. The Botox will target your facial nerves for a short period of time. This is what prevents your muscles from contracting and forming dynamic wrinkles.

That’s why Botox is so great at reducing wrinkles around our eyes and mouths. These wrinkles only form when we move our faces in certain ways. You shouldn’t expect Botox to get rid of deep lines and wrinkles. However, you may experience some softening of these more permanent marks.

Guide to Botox: How to Reduce Wrinkles With Botox

The amount of Botox that you need to reduce wrinkles depends on where your wrinkles are on your face. There are different kinds and sizes of muscles all over your face. So, different regions of your face need different doses of Botox.

Here are some of the most common recommendations for Botox dosages:

  • Forehead lines: 10-20 units
  • Frown or glabellar lines – 15-20 units
  • Crow’s feet: 10-12 units per eye
  • Bunny lines: 10 units
  • Gummy smile: 2.5-5 units
  • Neck: 50-100 units

Remember, this isn’t an exact count for your face. The medical professional administering your Botox may have different recommendations based on your wants.

Your experience with Botox in the past may also affect your dosing. You may need more Botox to produce a stronger effect as you get more treatments. However, the increase in Botox over time isn’t too significant. So, you shouldn’t worry about becoming ‘addicted’ to or ‘tolerant’ of Botox.

When in doubt, refer to your administering healthcare professional. They should be able to answer any and all questions you have about your Botox injections before you commit to the procedure.
