What Latisse Can Do for Your Beauty Routine

Thinning eyelashes or eyebrows can cause anyone to become self-conscious. And the condition can be incredibly frustrating if you don’t know what’s causing it. Fortunately, there is hope. The Latisse treatment is revolutionizing the game for those with alopecia or who are losing their lashes. Read on to find out more about getting your confidence back with Latisse.

What to Know About Using Latisse Treatments

What Causes Thinning Lashes and Brows?

Sometimes, the natural aging process is the culprit with thinning lashes or brows. Similar to hair that grows from the scalp, eyelashes and eyebrows grow by way of hair follicles. During the aging process, hair follicles produce less hair in both quantity and volume.

Sometimes though, hair loss can indicate something different. Often, especially in the case of shedding lash or brow hair, it can be a sign of a more serious condition like alopecia. If you’re losing more than approximately 50 to 100 hairs a day, you should see a dermatology specialist to talk about a potential alopecia diagnosis. There are a host of causes of alopecia, including childbirth, high fever, severe illness, thyroid problems, autoimmune diseases, insufficient levels of protein, certain medications, treatments like chemotherapy, low iron levels, poor hair care, and many more. Seeing a specialist can help you pinpoint what exactly is going on and what your alopecia triggers might be.

What Is Latisse?

Rather than spending the time, money, and effort putting on false lashes, getting lash extensions, or penciling in the eyebrows, there’s another option. The Latisse eyelash growth treatment has become extremely popular recently, and for good reason. This FDA-approved treatment is a safe and incredibly effective way to stimulate growth in the eyelashes and eyebrows.

Latisse is a topical medication that is prescribed to those with alopecia or anyone suffering from lash hair loss issues. By regularly applying Latisse along the lash line of the upper eyelid, natural growth of lashes occurs, including longer, thicker, and darker hair. Keep in mind that Latisse is only for the upper lashes and isn’t designed for the lower part of the eyelid.

Most doctors recommend patients use the Latisse treatment medication on a daily basis for a minimum of two months. Following this regimen, doctors may suggest “maintenance” applications in order to keep lashes looking thick, full, and healthy. Over time, especially if you have alopecia, your eyelashes will eventually become thin in appearance again, so it’s a good idea to keep using the Latisse treatment.

What Else Should I Know About Latisse?

Typically, results from the Latisse treatment are noticeable at about five weeks. Typically, results reach the peak of their potential at about 16 weeks. Latisse may include a few side effects, though they’re not guaranteed. However, a few of them can possibly become permanent, so it’s important to talk to your doctor about them. The list of side effects includes redness around the eye area, dryness of the eyes, darkened eyelids, or pigmentation changes in the iris of the eye (the colored part in the center).
